“How could she do this?” Sudip said as he looked at his best friend’s recent Instagram post.

“Why did she have to go to the beach now? Doesn’t she remember today is my birthday?” he spoke in a disappointed tone. But the sadness was ephemeral as he received a call from a familiar number.

“Hello!!” a bubbly voice cried out from the other end, “What are you doing?”

“Nothing much. Looking through your recent post,” Sudip answered in a weak voice. His voice gave off sting of betrayal, but his friend didn’t seem to notice that.

“Did you really see them? How do I look in the new dress?”

“Really pretty.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“Thank you,” her said in a satisfied tone and abruptly hung up the call. At the same moment someone rung the door bell.

Confused about why did his friend hang up abruptly, Sudip approached the door. As he opened the door, he was shocked by what he saw in front of him.

It was his friend standing at the doorstep with a cake, smiling from ear to ear. But she not alone, there were his other friends too. All of them were smiling at him.

“Happy Birthday.”

Thank you for reading. I haven’t written for a long time and slowly trying to get back into writing. So, I would love to get feedback on how I can improve my stories.

Finally, I would like to ask the readers to suggest a random word. I would choose one of them to write on for my nest story. It would be exciting if they can suggest the word limit too!

Thank you again.

This story was inspired by Fiction Friday prompt from the “Promptly Written” Publication and a random word “Ephemeral”.

Thank you Casey Lawrence, Ravyne Hawke & ADEOLA SHEEHY-ADEKALE for the prompt.
